[ TSA Carriers Agree on Need to Adjust Shoreside Charges ]

Member shipping lines in the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement(TSA)
, citing higher shoreside costs, inflationary pressures and actions ta
ken by other carriers and conferences serving Asia to offset cost impa
cts, have reached consensus on the need to increase certain charges an
d fees.
Effective January 1, 1997, those charges and fees will be set as follo

strator Robert A. Peavy. “ It is especially important, in terms of ma
intaining carrier viability, to closely monitor costs and make sure th
at they are reflected in the overall pricing structure, if not in the
base freight rates themselves.” Peavy added that TSA member lines int
end to file their respective charge and fee adjustments either individ
ually or as part of a rate setting conference to which they belong.

es serving the trade from Asia to the U.S. TSA provides a discussion f
orum for carriers to exchange market information, and to adopt rate an
d service policy guidelines in the interesting-term trade stability.
