Suggestion for developing Gwangyang port submitted
The Gwangyang city council handed out a suggestion October 21st that cargoes leaving Pusan port should migrate to Gwangyang port.
In this suggestion, the council pointed out that cargoes in Pusan port have been moving to Chinese ports because of Pusan's shallow 16-meter deep berths. It also demanded that the government act promptly to ensure cargoes move to Gwangyang port.
They continued to say that Gwangyang port has berths over 20 meters deep and its 200 million pyoung -of hinterlands are more than adequate for large vessels. Moreover, surrounding isles and mountains act as natural breakwaters.
However, there has been no adequate development or PR for Gwangyang port. In order to develop Gwanyang port, the council urged the government to comply with its suggestion.
