“Civil servants should be modest?” published by deputy minister
Lark-Jung Choi, deputy minister of MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries), raised eyebrows over his new book on civil servants and society, “Civil servants should be modest?”.
The youngest deputy minister in the present government, Mr. Choi compiled journals on reforming the direction for civil servants into a book. The deputy minister already severely criticized civil servants in his book “Enthusiastic civil servants energize the country”, published in 2002 when he was a planning and management manager in MOMAF. That book was in the Kyobo Book Store’s top best-selling books for four week’s running. He donated all the profits from the book to the “House of Raphael”, a facility for the disabled.
This time in his book, “Civil servants should be modest?”, he proclaimed that the first step for change and reform is to reestablish the identity of the civil servant as he defines: to serve the people as master with all their hearts.
He also wrote a book on his family story. The profits from the semi-autobiography will also go to the same charity.
