HHI's RO-PAX selected as one of the best ships of the year.
The RO-PAX vessel from HHI was selected as one of the best ships of the year by foreign shipping magazines. HHI said December 8 that the Stena Britanica, a vessel ordered by Stena RO-RO in Sweden in 2000, was selected as one of the best ships of 2002 by the two largest U.S. magazines, the Maritime Reporter and the Marine Rogue, and one English maritime magazine, the Naval Architect. HHI was also selected for the 701 thousand ton bulk carrier Nelvana in 1983.
The Stena Britanica, having a length of 211m, a width of 29m, and height of 29m, is capable of transporting 900 passengers and 150 cars and trailers at the rate of 22 knots. It also has the conveniences of a multi-purpose hall, restaurant, lounge, shopping arcade, conference room and snackbar, as well as ultramodern facilities including a electronic fire prevention apparatus. This semi-cruise vessel will serve in the North Sea connecting England, Belgium and Ireland. An HHI spokesperson said that this selection further demonstrated their dedication to excellence in the shipbuilding world.
