Free city express highway tolls for container cars
As ships that were tied up because 29 port lockouts along the West Coast in the U.S. all have been calling at Pusan Port at once, container trucks would be exempted from tolls on the second and third city express highway in Pusan to reduce demurrage and stockpiles.
Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Office said October 30 "Pusan decided to discharge container cars traveling the second and third city express highway from passage money from November 11 to December 31 as an emergency measure related to West Coast strikes in the U.S."
The second city express highway which collects tolls of 800 won each way sees 3,700 container cars daily, and the third city express highway charges 1,000 won for the Mt. Sujeong tunnel, each way 900 won for the Mt. Baekyang tunnel, and sees 2,500 container cars daily.
The Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Office expects that this will help port management though the City of Pusan will take a hit to their pocketbook for the reduced highway passage income. As enterprises using Pusan Port can reduce transport costs, most transportation cargoes from Pusan Port are sent to Yangsan ICD.
