A huge project to improve the Mokpo district as a new international logistic hub is under way with the participation of domestic and foreign enterprises including several German companies. Especially, this project will be the center for the Daebul district, which is scheduled for designation as a Free Trade Zone.
This project is aiming to develop the Mokpo area to link with the Daebul industrial complex, Mokpo port and Muan airport. It is also plans to draw international enterprises and international forwarders into the new cargo logistic complex of 300,000 pyoung (1 pyoung is about 3.3 sq. m) located in the new Mokpo outer port.
According to the Ministry of Commerce Industry and Energy (MOCIE) October 24, BLG, the well-known German logistic company, is looking to form a new corporation to embrace domestic and foreign companies.
BLG has been cooperating with the Korea Industrial Development Institute (KID) on studies and plans to make Mokpo a logistics center transferred for South Cholla Province. While Daebul will likely be designated as a Free Trade Zone in the middle of November, the new BLG company may be established within this year with joint investment from German and domestic companies, said MOCIE.
An insider at MOCIE said that BLG is under discussion with its Korean counterpart regarding investment in the new company. This project will benefit from its close proximity to China, he said.
