Kyoungsang area saves 40 percent EDI fees
Shipping companies and shipping agents in Pusan, Ulsan, Masan and Pohang areas are going to reduce their Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) usage this coming October 15.
Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed on October 2nd that it will change 16 things currently done through an EDI system including vessel entrance and departure, import and export cargoes, and application for port facilities to a real time internet system on October 15. The MOMAF Pusan Office expects this process to reduce EDI connections with proportionate savings. The local MOMAF office estimates that shipping companies and shipping agents will save 364 million won while Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will save 238 million won, accounting for over 40% of their annual EDI usage. In addition, it will shorten processing time with the help of fast EDI processing speed.
An insider at the Pusan MOMAF office said that they are pushing to change the simple EDI system handling process of port operation into a simgle integrated Internet system. If related systems are developed, EDI costs will continue to decrease, he added.
