HMM moves into Chinese market
HMM has opened operations in the Chinese market where container cargoes have recently jumped in volume.
According to one HMM insider, they will open new container routes that cover Pusan to Shanghai for import and export both ways.
Already in the route is one 1,000 TEU class container ship, serving Pusan (Friday), Kwangyang (Saturday), to Ningbo (Tuesday), and Shanghai (Wednesday). The weekly service calls at each port once a week.
By opening this route, HMM will handle cargoes from Pusan, Ulsan, and Kwangyang bound for main ports in China such as Shanghai, Qingao, Dalian, Tianjin, and Ningbo.
The new route opens cargoes for China / North America, China / Europe, and transshipment cargoes for Pusan as well as Korea / China.
" Cargo loading rates from Asia to North America have been recovering lately due to lasting growth in the Chinese economy," and "this routes widens the transportation capacity of Korea-China to meet shippers’ needs, improve the quality of service through closer integration with existing routes" said one HMM insider.
