Custom clearance for imports available in the office
Korea Customs Service, announced that it would set up their computer system to help importers handle minor jobs in their offices, instead of visiting the Customs office in order to supply importers with more convenience and to reduce logistic costs.
Starting August 8th, the Customs improved computer systems for traders, shipping companies, air liners and forwarders will fix corrections in their shipping invoices and create reports of in and out cargoes all from the comfort of their offices without having to go to Customs. Importers can check corrections done in the Korea Customs Service home page by verifying container numbers. The Korea Customs Service expected this system would help to save logistic costs by about 2 billion won.
So far, some corrections can be done through the Internet service, though there are some corrections that require a visit to the Customs Service, which still incurs some logistic costs and delays.
