Masan rushing to Russian ports
The Port of Masan, having seen most of its provincial cargoes bound for East Europe and Russia go to the Port of Pusan, is pushing to set up sisterhood ties with Vostochny, the largest port in Russia, and secure a bridgehead to the far eastern areas in Russia.
As Mr. Alexander Kiselev, president of the Port of Vostochny officially visited the Masan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries on March 11, he signed on the sisterhood tie with the Port of Masan.
If the agreement officially takes effect under the current Korea and Russia maritime agreement in the form of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the Port of Masan will be able to secure a favorable position with other ports in deploying vessels and operating container trades.
The Port of Vostochny is 20 to 22 meters deep and can accommodate up to 150,000-ton vessels. It has secured four container terminals, dedicated terminals for coal, timber, general cargoes and fertilizers, and is equipped with six gantry cranes. It is also the point of origin for the Trans Siberian Railroad (TSR) that connects to East Europe and other CIS areas.
