Cargoes bound for Americas increase for large shipping companies
Amidst cargo declines, total cargoes moving into the U.S. in August continued to drop to 42,809 TEU, a decrease of 3%.
According to results released by ISAAK (International Shipping Agencies Association of Korea) on September 11, cargoes fell slightly during August, with most shipping companies showing declines.
The companies with cargo increases for the month were restricted to several large shipping companies, including Hyundai Merchant Marine, Maersk Sealand, APL, and P&O Nedlloyd.
In the larger picture, Pacific South West (PSW) bound trade showed a slight increase, including local cargoes in Pacific North West (PNW) trade routes. Other cargoes bound for the PNW, U.S. East Coast, Canada, Mexico, and South America all decreased.
Compared to July, cargoes transported by Hanjin Shipping (HJS) and Hyundai Merchant Marine took a 38.6% share of all cargoes or 16,609 TEU. HMM cargoes increased to 17.34% of the total, or 7,424 TEU. HJS shrank a little to 21.4% or 9,185 TEU.
Amongst foreign shipping companies, APL took a 9.06% market share, marking a total of 3,879 TEU, up from 7.55% in July. Maersk Sealand captured 8.18% of the market or 3,501 TEU. Zim Line, having topped the charts in the previous month, only recorded 3,059TEU, or a 7.15% market share.
