HMM advances into Middle Eastern Markets
Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) is aggressively gearing up to expand into some fast growing new markets in the Middle East, beginning a new container service between China and the Middle East.
According to HMM on July 5th, it will start this new weekly service in China and Middle East trade by chartering slots from NYK and P&O Nedlloyd on a slot exchange basis. HMM is currently operating six 2,200 TEU container vessels in Korea and Middle East trades.
The new service will call at the following ports: Ningbo - Shanghai - Yantian - Singapore - Port Kellang - Jebel Alli - Dammam - Bandar Abbas - Singapore - Ningbo.
HMM also added a port of call in its current Korea - Middle East trade at the Port of Kwangyang.
According to people in the industry, the Middle East is emerging as a potentially very strong new market, and is expected to produce a demand for over 500,000 TEU from the Far East, a greater than 6% increase compared to a year ago. HMM said, "China and Middle East trade possesses infinite potential for increase. We set forth to strengthen ourselves in this market by beginning a new service."
"With this new service, we can maximize profits and satisfy shippers' demands as well as heighten the quality of our services."
