HMM and HJS rank amongst top 3 in vessel capacity
Hanjin Shipping (HJS) and Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) ranked second and third place in terms of average loading capacity for each container vessel.
According to Containerization International's report concerning the global top 20 container liners, container vessels totaled 1,725, or 4 million TEU, and the average capacity per vessel reached 2,319 TEU.
Hapag-Lloyd, a German liner, topped the rankings with an average vessel capacity of 3,688 TEU, while Hanjin and HMM followed with 3,506 TEU and 3,421 TEU, respectively.
Only these three companies showed an average vessel capacity over 3,000 TEU.
Elsewhere, APL and Maersk-Sealand and Evergreen fell between the 2,000 to 2,999 TEU mark.
"These large vessels amount to strong competitiveness. HJS and HMM have prepared for the future trend towards larger vessels," a concerned person in shipping industry said.
