[ HMM, Direct Call at Port Klang ]
HMM recently increased capacity and speeded up transit time with new m
ultimodal express sailings to and from the U.S. West Coast and Korea,
Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia.
The breakthrough came on January 29 when the company inaugurated a dir
ected weekly service from Port Klang to the U.S. West Coast, thereby d
rastically reducing the transit time to 16 days.
The plan calls for six 4,411 TEU container vessels to be used independ
ently on the Pacific SouthwestⅠroute and make a direct call at Port K
lang every Monday. The vessel will then move on to Singapore, Hong Kon
g, Kaohsiung, Pusan and then across the Pacific to Long Beach, Okland
and Seattle before returning to Asia by reverse port rotation.
The expanded network of streamlined feeder services will benefit custo
mers as cargo from the north will be fed to Port Klang for transhipmen
t. Cargo from Pasir Gudang will still be transhipped at Singapore, how
ever.
This year, the company’s expanded feeder networks will carry cargo to
and from all major points in Asia, with new services covering South C
hina, India, and Pakistan.
