HMM strengthened on East Coast of North America with Evergreen from May
Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) is scheduled to strengthen on the East Coast of North America with Evergreen, the second biggest container liner based in Hong Kong.
The New World Alliance (TNWA) that HMM established with APL and MOL, announced that it will go into slot exchange for 2 years with Evergreen between Asia and the East Coast of North America beginning early this May.
HMM will serve the two new services through charters with Evergreen. They will call at Pusan-Japan-Colon-Panama-Charleston-Baltimore-New York for one, and Hong Kong-Kaohsiung-Colon-Panama-New York-Norfolk-Savannah for the other service.
In addition, HMM has been pushing ahead with strengthening the three trade lanes between the East Coast of North America and Europe since joining with Maersk-Sealand last October.
Through this slot exchange, HMM can provide more services in transpacific trade, up to three services from one, as well as add new services without worrying about maintaining excess vessels. Especially, it expects to offer better overall service competitiveness to shippers by calling three times a week at main ports on the East Coast of North America, including New York and Norfolk.
HMM explained, "As this market, the East Coast of North America, has been under-represented in favor of the West Coast of North America, we see it as an emerging new potential market, with cargo increasing continuously, and are strengthening our services there."
