On behalf of everyone at the Port of Long Beach, I wish our esteemed friends and business partners in Korea and around the globe a very Happy New Year.
The coming year is an exciting time for international trade, and the Port of Long Beach, which just celebrated its centennial anniversary, is honored to be at the heart of this dynamic.
The new U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement concluded in recent months heralds a new era of international prosperity. The landmark accord sets the stage for a greater flow of goods between U.S. and South Korea and reinforces an already strong relationship that will grow stronger over the years.
This historic moment is especially thrilling for the Port of Long Beach, which embraces a shared future built upon longstanding relationships with our valued Korean partners. They include Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd., our time-honored customer at Pier T and parent shipping line of Total Terminals International. At the Port of Long Beach, the future is also built on real investment.
For the next decade, the Port has committed more than $4 billion to new and improved infrastructure and green technology to serve the 21st century needs of our customers and markets.
We will continue to operate as responsible environmental stewards as we harness our skills and energy to remain a competitive gateway and the international community’s ‘Port of Choice’ to U.S. markets.
