HMM estimated as top green management company from CDP

Hyundai Merchant Marine (President Suk-Hui Lee) received the ‘Carbon Management Industry Leader’ award from ‘2011 Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Korea’ on October 26th. Paul Simpson, CEO of CDP UK, and Ji-in Jang, CDP Korea's chairperson participated in the ceremony.

The CDP is an independent not-for-profit organization holding the largest database of primary corporate climate change and water information in the world. Some 3,000 organizations across the world’s largest economies now measure and disclose their greenhouse gas emissions, water usage and assessment of climate change and water risk and opportunity through CDP, in order that they can set reduction targets and make performance improvements.

A representative of HMM said, “We have been praised for our effort to protect the environment through the ‘Green Management’, so we’re strengthening our position within the global shipping industry and leading on climate change issues.”

The company has organized their Green Management exclusive division and dealt with environment-friendly transportation. In the last year, HMM also built their green-house gases total management system, so they could measure and control the whole workplace's green house gases.

The company was also selected in the top three environment-friendly companies in the world by SeaIntel in June last year. <김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr>
