[ Hanjin Shipping Inaugurates Kwangyang Container Terminal ]
On 19 December 1998, Hanjin Inaugurated its exclusive Kwangyang Termi
nal in the southwest coast of Korea. At the ceremony hosted by Hanjin
Shipping Company President, Sooho Cho, Invited Guests Included Mr. O.
H. Kim, the Major of Kwangyang city; Mr. S. K. Kim, the minister of Ma
ritime Affairs and Fisheries; customers and HJS executives. The ceremo
ny coincided with the arrival of the first vessel. the 2,700 TEU Hanji
n Bremen, which currently operates on the China America Express servic
e.
As a bllateral project between Korea's Southeast and Southwest areas t
o enhance economic development, the two port system will provide custo
mers with consideravle savings in logistics costs with the option to c
hoose either Kwangyang or Pusan, As a part of this, the United Allianc
e partners(Hanjin Shipping, DSR-Senator Line, Cho Yang Line), along wi
th Dongnama Shipping and Pacific International Lines will initlally op
erate a total of ten vessels weekly at Kwangyang terminal. Annual capa
city of the terminal for the first year is projected at 100,000 TEUs.

gyang - Pusan - Seattle - Vancouver - Pusan - Keelung - Hong Kong
CAX(Westbound) : Oakiand - Tokyo - Osaka - Pusan - Kwangyang - Shangha
i - Pusan - Long Beach
The terminal is equipped with advanced container terminal control and
management systems to accommodate customers with total logistics servi
ce. The terminal occuples a land area of 210,000 mt and utliizes four
transfer cranes to accommodate the designed handling capacity of 240,0
00 TEU per year, Furthermore, two post-panamax gantry cranes are aiong
side a berth measuring 350m and a depth of 14m. the terminal's one-tim
e stacking capacity equates to 11,433 TEU(Dry : 11,001 TEU, Reefer: 43
2 TEU)and equipped with 228 reefer recaptacies (220/440V) to properly
manage ever increasing refrigerated container volums. Furnished with a
six-lane gate entrancs, a bar code operation system has been installe
d to automate gate activity, equipment movement, for efficient termina
l operations.
Located within the terminal, the CFS, measuring 5,782 is equipped to
handle approximately 180,000 R/T(7,200 TEU) per year, by which the ran
ge and standard of service quallity of LCL cargoes will be enhanced.
In addition to the Kwangyang terminal, Hanjin currently operates dedic
ated terminals worldwide in Seattle, Osaka, Tokyo, Kamcheon(Pusan), Xa
mman(Pusan), Long Beach. Hamburg, and Kaohsiung, Future dedicated term
inals include New York., Oakland, and Seattle(new), and scheduled to o
pen in 1999, and two in 2000 respecitively.
Hanjin Shipping offers worldwide container transportation and logistic
