[ Mombasa Vessel Delay Surcharge ]
Shipping lines calling at the port of Mombasa have been experiencing i
ncreasing vessel delay. This being due to an increase in vessels calli
ng at the port, unseasonal rains and emergency quay repairs. In the pe
riod from January to March the average delay of Far East container lin
er operatiors’ vessels was 4.7 days. In April and May the situation h
as deteriorated significantly with lines witnessing delays of 8 to 14
days. The resulting impact is a major increase in costs and disruption
of liner schedules.
The following lines Maersk, Mitsui O.S.K., PIL and P&O Nedlloyd theref
ore will be implementing a Vessel Delay Surcharge of USD 120/TEU effec
tive from 1st June 1998 on all import and export cargo handle through
the port of Mombasa.
