Trades between Koran and China/Russia to show a rapid growth.
Recent passenger and cargo traffic between Korea and China/Russia is r
apidly growing.
According to the Ministry of Transportation,mutual trades between Kore
an and China/Russia have been quite active following the restored dipl
omatic relationship between these two countries and consequently the n
umber of passengers and cargo volume by sea and air have been increase
d explosively.
Cargo trade volume between Korea and China increased by 77.5 percent t
o 230.8 million tons last year following the year of 1992 when it amou
nted to 129.9 million tons, up 55.7 percent over 83 million tons in 1
991.
Of that total volume, air cargo recorded about 6.6 million tons from 8
0,000 tons in 1991 and seaborne transport amounted to 224.2 mill tons
from 83.4 million tons in 1991.
At the same time, cargo trade volume between Korea and Russia showed a
42.3 percent growth with 47.4 million tons last year following the ye
ar of 1992 when it was increased by 21.2 percent to 33.3 million ton c
ompared to 27.5 million tons in 1991.
Of that total volume, air cargo reached about 9.4 million tons, up 411
.85 percent over about 1.8 million tons in 1991 and seaborne cargo in
creased by 48.0 percent to about 38 million tons from about 25.6 milli
on tons in 1991.
By the way, the number of passengers by sea and air between Korea an
d china increased by 315.4 percent to 340,362 last year from 81,945 pa
ssengers in 1991 and quite similarly, the passengers between Korea an
d Russia have been increased by 139.1 percent to 107,817 from 81,945 i
n 1991.
In the meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation predicted that cargo
trades from/to China and Russia would be increased by more than 30 pe
rcent on an average every year for the time being because of much impr
oved investment conditions in these regions.
It is also anticipated that passengers through sea transportation on t
hese routes will be taken over slightly by air and consequently it me
ans that in the future air passengers will be constantly increased.
