North of England Entries Reach a Record 22.7MillonG/T at Renewal
Entered tonnage in the North of England P&I club has reach a record 22
.7 million GT following the renewal on 20 Feb 1998. The increase of 4.
7 millon GT over 20 Feb 1997 was primarily due to transfers from the N
ewcastle P&I club, which successfully completed its merger with the No
rth of England at this year’s renewal.
According to joint managing directors Peter Crichton and Rodney Eccles
ton: “We are delighted at the overwhelming support we have received f
rom existing members of the North of England and Newcastle clubs and l
ook forward to providing them with the full benefits of the merger in
the coming year”
Of the 4 millon GT former Newcastle tonnage which had been offered ren
ewal terms, a total of 3.7 millon GT accepted. The balance of the incr
ease was mainly due to new tonnage joining the Borth of England prior
to renewal.
The club’s new senior management tean-which includes Hugh Dyer and Pa
ul Jennings from the Newcastle club-believes that the North of England
is well on its way to becoming one of the financially stronger clubs
in the International Group.
“Despite a generally soft market, we successfully increased rates whe
re necessary on a significant number of accounts,” says Paul Jennings
, head of marketing and underwriting. “Our improved finances together
with enlarged membership, economies of scale and enhanced service cap
ability have given the merged club a perfect platform for continued fu
ture development”
