MOMAF minister looks back on first year of office
Jang Seung Woo, minister of MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) held a social meeting with reporters on the first anniversary of his inauguration year last October 18.
Minister Jang said, "When I started the new position, the ministry was mired in problems like Typhoon Maemi and the early retirement of the ex-minister. Consequently, I emphasized stabilizing the system and concentrating on repairing the aftermath of Maemi. This organization has stabilized itself and solved many desires of businesses yearning to see us as a hub in North-East Asia."
He added, "We signed MOUs with several countries, including Japan and Singapore, to attract logistic companies to the 40,000 pyoung Gammcheon Port in Pusan, and the 80,000 pyoung Gwangyang Port. We also introduced tonnage dues to strengthen competitiveness and further stabilized labor relations through peaceful labor and management talks in April."
