The maritime affairs team in Pusan Maritime headquarters won the best team prize for recording 1,356 matters (1.1 million team mileage points) and the northeast regional headquarter won the best CoP (Community of Practice) prize for their active community practices. Hanjin's employee participation rate in the program is over 85%.
Director Jin-Young Kim from a planning & strategy team won first prize with 12,796 points. A large number of his knowledge points came from his world liner maritime market prospect report and information on other several maritime and logistics issues. Dong-Hyun Park, director of the Pusan maritime headquarters shipping service team, won second prize and Su-Hyun Son, deputy of the maritime affairs team, won third prize.
Won-Pyo Choi, chief knowledge operator, said, "In this fast changing information-oriented age, we have to make the most of information and use it to bolster our competitiveness." He also said he wanted employees to work hard to that end.
Hanjin Shipping has operated their 'knowledge management system' since determining that keeping information in common was a core ability of a company and a decisive factor for quality of service.
The Korean Management Association (KMA) recognized Hanjin Shipping with the Best Service Prize in 2001 at an awards ceremony for knowledge management. The award stems from KMA highly valuing information and knowledge management as a means to greater efficiency and competitiveness.
'i-Plaza', Hanjin Shipping's knowledge management system, consists of employees' business know-how, examples of success or failure, all kinds of maritime information and information about customers and cooperative companies, as well as other related things.
Hanjin Shipping also operates 'e-Camp21', an education system and 'Shipping Infomax' that consists of information on world maritime affairs, ports, and the economy.
