Paekdusan trade extended to Vladivostok
The trade between Sokcho, Kangwon-do and Zaruhino, Russia is expected to extend to Vladivostok.
According to Dongchun Ferry on Oct. 30, as the last thing standing between trade extensions to Vladivostok, a stevedoring matter, was settled, the company submitted reports to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) to ask for the trade extension Nov. 2. Unless something happens, Dongchun Ferry should gain permission from MOMAF to operate to Vladivostok via Zaruhino from Nov. 6 as planned.
The ferry company will operate two systems separately, if the trade continues to Vladivostok, i.e., the Thursday departure from Sokcho will go to Vladivostok, while the Monday service sails to Zaruhino.
A high official from Dongchun Ferry said, ?t will be so helpful for the residents around Vladivostok to use the Ferry, making trips to Zaruhino unnecessary. More cargoes and travelers are expected, bringing a boom the currently depressed trade.?
In the meantime, the international ferry trade between Sokcho and Zaruhino opened in April 2000 with customers of Paekdusan Mountain tourists and hawkers, operating two times a week with 12,000-ton vessels.
