Hanjin Shipping adds fifth 5,600TEU-class container vessel into pendulum Service
On October 30 2000, a naming ceremony was held at the Hanjin Heavy Industries shipyard in Yongdo, Pusan of the delivery of the fifth 5,600TEU-class container ship chartered by Hanjin Shipping from German finance and ship owning concern Conti Reederei. Approximately 100 guests participated in the ceremony including Hanjin Shipping Director and Vice President of the Maritime Division, R.H. Lee, Conti Reederei Chairman Fritz Muller, Conti Reederei President Gerd Nausch, and other representatives from the industry and media.
At the ceremony, Mrs. Frauke Winter, wife of board member for Deutshe Schiftsbank, Mr. Henning Winter, named the latest newbuilding the HANJIN OTTAWA. The Hanjin Ottawa will be deployed within the United Alliance's PS-Pendulum Asia, Europe and North America service, effective immediately.
Built by Hanjin Heavy Industries, the containership will have improved service speeds compared with the vessels they will replace. With a highly fuel-efficient engine that is capable of operating at a speed of more than 26.8 knots, the Hanjin Ottawa is 279 metres in length, a width of 41 metres and depth of 24 metres - ensuring maximum carrying capacity with the lowest operating costs. The new vessel will be deployed in the United Alliance's Pendulum I Service (PDA).
The introduction of the Hanjin Ottawa is in line with Hanjin's continuing policy of modernizing its fleet, and offering its customers excellent and personalized service. With an average age of 3 years, Hanjin currently has one of the youngest fleets among its competitors.
