Panalpina Expands its Airfreight Services from the Far East
Owing to the resounding success of its all-freighter link between Maca
o and Luxembourg, Panalpina is adding a second weekly flight to the se
rvice. It is also increasing the frequency of the flights on its Europ
e-Brazil routes.
In September, the multinational Panalpina Group is adding a second wee
kly all-freighter flight to the service linking Macao and its Luxembou
rg hub. These flights are part of the Asian Wigns service operated by
SwissGlobalCargo, the joint venture between Panalpina and SAirLogistic
s. In Europe, SwissGlobalCargo has its own road distribution network a
llowing goods arriving at Luxembourg to be forwarded straight to Panal
pina branches across the continent.
SwissGlobalCargo began its weekly flights between Macao and Luxembourg
in May 2000 using a B747F. This aircraft, belonging to MK Airlines, l
eaves Macao on Saturday evening and reaches Luxembourg on Sunday morni
ng. Very buoyant demand prompted Panalpina to double the frequency of
the service. The second flight, which will also be operated by MK Airl
ines, departs Macao on Friday evening, arriving in Luxembourg on Satur
day. With the 200 tons of extra capacity a week - in addition to the f
ixed allocations via Hong Kong - the company will be able to meet its
customers`s requirements during the coming peak season.
Additional capacity for Brazil Since June, Panalpina has been offering
an additional weekly service between Luxembourg and Brazil, this too
being operated by MK Airlines on behalf of SwissGlobalCargo. The extra
100tons of freight capacity will meet customer demand on this route,
originating in particular from the telecommunications and automotive i
ndustries. The flight supplements the four weekly flights already oper
ated by Panalpina under its "block space" agreement with partner com
pany Cargolux.
