Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post Sign Cooperation Agreements
Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post have signed far-reaching cooperatio
n agreements for their IT systems, logistics and printing services div
isions, thus putting into practice their declaration of intent issued
in 1999. Both companies are making use of the global trend to outsourc
e tasks in the fields of logistics and telecommunications in order to
reduce costs and increase business potentials.
Comprehensive tasks from the areas of IT and network operations are tr
ansferred to Deutsche Telekom through these agreements. Deutsche Post
World Net on the other hand will take over the areas of logistics and
printing services from its partner. Accounting for an annual revenue o
f around DM 420m this is one of the biggest orders in the logisitics b
usiness.
One of the business focusses of Deutsche Telekom, a leading global tel
ematics company, is the planning, implementation and operation of tail
or-made IT and telecommunications services. Deutsche Post complete cor
porate network with its about 80,000 workstations and the entire field
service will be operated by DeTeCSM, one of Deutsche Telekom IT subsi
diaries, on behalf of DeTesystem Deutsche Telekom Systemlosungs GmbH.
DeTeSystem, responsible for innovative telematic systems solutions for
both nationally and internationally active major companies, will act
as general contractor and manage the entire project. The companies' co
ntribution to this partnership will be both their efficiency and exper
ience, especially that of DeTeCSM in the operation of large networks.
Another advantage will be the two companies thus enhanced worldwide pr
esence as providers of IT services. Providing for a revenue amounting
to DM 250m this venture is one of the largest outsourcing projects in
the field of IT in Germany.
Deutsche Post World Net, with its globally active subsidiary Danzas, i
s a leading international provider of integrated logistics services. I
n Bonn both companies claimed that with cooperation the ycould take im
portant steps toward focussing on each company's core competences. The
two partners expect the transfer of tasks to provide synergy effects
and potantial savings amounting to two - digit million figures.
In the future, Deutsche Post World Net will take over a number of task
s previously carried out by Deutsche Telekom. These include inventory
management, material management, logistics management support and the
operation of printing centres. Danzas in particular can bring in its e
xperience in international Telekom logistics. The company will be resp
onsible for providing the logistics services for Deutsche Telekom.
As part of the mutual transfer of tasks almost 1,000 Deutsche Post Wor
ld Net staff will change over to Telekom. This change will proceed in
two steps. Deutsche Post on the other hand will take over a good 2,500
staff from Deutsche Telekom. Jobs are not planned to be cut. The staf
f-related measures were planned in mutual agreement and close cooperat
ion with the social partners. By optimizing the deployment of both hum
an and technical resouces both companies are expected to further exten
d their range of services and thus win over new customers.
