Panalpina launches tracking & tracing by mobile phone
Panalpina, the forwarding and logistics group active in 65 countries,
has assumed a pioneering role once again; the group is the first logis
tics specialist in the world to offer its customers a WAP application.
WAP, which stands for Wireless Application Protocol, enables customer
s to dial into the Internet by telephone and, at the same time, to acc
ess Panalpina’s consignment tracking system PanTrace. This means that
all customers are able at any time to establish the current status of
their consingments anywhere in the world. The only prerequisite is th
at they use a WAP- compliant mobile phone.
According to Patrick Fluri, Director of Business Processes & Technolog
ies, WAP will help to achieve the real breakthrough in Internet-based
services. “We see huge potential in the telecommunications field, and
Panalpina will actively assist the development of this medium”. Flur
i points out that the current offering is based on WAP standard 1.1. a
nd is thus absolutely state-of-the-art.
