APL Awarded Best Intra-Asia Shipping Line by Cargo News Asia
APL has been presented with the Best Intra-Asia Shipping Line award by CargoNews Asia Magazine at the 15th Asian Freight Industry Awards in Hong Kong.
The Asian Freight Industry Awards are given to the best companies in the global transportation industry and are the only Asian freight polls where customers, rather than judges, are asked to vote for the best service providers.
The award was accepted by Mr. Koay Peng Yen, Vice President of APL's Intra-Asia & Australia Trade sector. "We are proud of this recognition of our efforts in the Asian region, especially in the Intra-Asia trade, and thank our customers for their support," said Mr. Koay. "Our commitment to the Asian market has grown steadily through the years. We launched five new services in 2000 in the region, and are in a prime position to further increase our presence within Asia. We look forward to leveraging our extensive route coverage and e-commerce capabilities to help our customers enhance business in this fast-growing region."
"One of APL's brightest spots continues to be our intra-Asia business," said Mr. Daniel McHugh, APL President Asia and Middle East. "Volume and revenue on this trade increased for us last year. We work closely with our customers and so we are able to respond to the fast-changing needs of the intra-Asia trade and create optimal efficiency in our network."
Aside from customers based in Asia, many APL customers based in Europe and the Americas use APL's intra-Asia services in conjunction with their global distribution activities.
"Working closely with our customers also helps us find ways to make it easier for them to do business with us and to offer them choice in the way they transact. Our HomePort web portal, for example, has gained good support in Asia and will gain further support with the recent launch of the Chinese language HomePort," Mr. McHugh said.
Judging took place in 37 categories denoting transportation industry sectors and the four major trading areas in the world, namely Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East. Winners were chosen through votes cast by readers and staff of CargoNews Asia. Votes were tabulated by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
APL has won several major awards in recent months, including the first Global Carrier Award from Philips Electronics and the Best Carrier Award from the Journal of Commerce, in addition to being recognized for one of the best business-to-business web sites by BtoB Magazine and named to InformationWeek's 500 list for I.T. excellence.
APL provides customers around the world with container transportation services through a network combining high-quality intermodal operations with state-of-the-art information technology. APL is the container transportation arm of Neptune Orient Lines Limited, a global transportation and logistics company engaged in shipping and related businesses.
