Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM), a Korean liner company, received the Greenship Certificate from Korea Register (KR) for the first time among Korean carriers.
The Greenship Certificate is an environment friendly standard from KR based vessel management, operating, and execution level on environmental agreements. The Greenship Certification was first implemented on July 1st.
The 60,000-ton bulk carrier, "Pacific Pride", owned by HMM, had its name put on the certificate list for the first time on August 31.
The "Pacific Pride" is equipped with a Propeller Boss Cap With Fin (PBCF), a facility for energy efficiency, as with it HMM can improve 10% on its Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). The company also can reduce gas emissions by using PDCF.
As a result, HMM can make preparations for global eco standards in advance of other carriers.
A representative from HMM said, "We're very pleased to enhance not only our enterprise value, but also the quality of green-life through the certificate. We continue to do our best to obtain more eco-friendly certifications to offer better service to our customers."
Also, HMM has been verified on August 28 for the Clean Shipping Index for 20 container ships, which is enacted by a shipper association in Northern Europe. < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
