Four Companies Selected to Run Port of Kunsan

Terminal Operation Companies in the Port of Kunsan were chosen to run
6 berths in Pier 5 and 2 berths in Pier 2.
The Port Authority of Kunsan announced September 29th that the SK Ship
ping Co., will be in charge of berths 22 and 23 in Pier 2, the Korea E
xpress Co. will handle berths 51 and 52 in Pier 5, Hansol CSN will tak
e charge of berths 53 and 54 in Pier 5, and the Global Group will cove
r berths 55 and 56, also in Pier 5.
SK Shipping, Korea Express, and Hansol CSN applied for their position
by themselves and were chosen as operation companies in spite of not r
eporting their investment intentions to the ?ort Modernization Fund.

The Global Group and Hanjin competed with each other for berths 55 a
nd 56 in Pier 5. The Global Group was selected for these positions by
writing out 700 million won while Hanjin handed in 390 million won.
The Port of Kunsan is going to sign a Terminal Operation Company (TOC)
contract with these 4 companies for 2 or 3 years.
Behind selecting companies, some complaints were lodged saying that th
e process was not fair because allowing the price tendered by each to
be known every hour prevents fair play.
