OOIL signs the United Nations Global Compact

Orient Overseas (International) Limited (OOIL), a company with principal business activities in container transport (OOCL) and logistics services (OOCL Logistics), is delighted to announce its joining of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and as a signatory, we are honored to be the first Hong Kong-based enterprise in the international transportation and logistics industry to take part in this important initiative.

Through our business strategies, operation, corporate culture, and continual engagement in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) set out by United Nations, we are committed to supporting the Ten Principles of the UNGC that sets out fundamental responsibilities in areas such as human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. To demonstrate our long-term commitment in corporate sustainability, transparency, and accountability, we aim to publish a Communication on Progress (COP) report on an annual basis to describe our extensive efforts in implementing the Ten Principles and SDG.

We believe this is an excellent opportunity for us to align UN Global Compact and UN Sustainable Development Goals with the corporate sustainability strategy in our business.”

Prior to our participation in the UNGC, we have already been very active in building up our work on SDG.  In the latest 2016 Sustainability Report, we introduced new targets and specific action items towards the formulation of relevant SDG to tackle environmental and social issues across industries while strengthening our profile as an industry leader on sustainability initiatives.

In other areas of achievement, we are also very proud to remain as a constituent on the FTSE4Good Global Index from having successfully fulfilled all the ESG requirements of the Index for the third consecutive year since 2015.  In addition, as a founding constituent of the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index, we are pleased to have received the highest sustainability score in the industrials sector from the latest sustainability performance review.  These are remarkable achievements as well as recognition of our efforts to achieving consistent and long-term sustainability objectives.

Moving forward, OOIL will continue its commitment to operational excellence for sustainability as it has over the years through areas such as green investments on fuel-efficient vessels, energy-saving terminals, and eco-friendly machineries and equipment.
