Panalpina Ranked as Europe's No.1 airfreight forwarder for third year in succession

According to the latest IATA/CASS statistics, Panalpina has retained i
ts leading position in the European airfreight market.
As in the two preceding years, Panalpina the forwarding and logistics
company active in 65 countries has come out at the top of the IATA/CAS
S 1999 rankings of the largest European airfreight companies. The rank
ings were reported in the trade journal Aircargo News. The fact that P
analpina was able to retain its leading position was due in large part
to growth in Sweden, Finland, Italy and the UK. It also succeeded in
maintaining a strong position in a number of other major markets. One
country in which Panalpina posted a sizeable rise was Switzerland, whe
re it has been able to consolidate its position thanks to the successf
ul integration of JackyMaeder.
The rankings are based on the sales of forwarding companies with IATA
airlines that are invoiced through or by CASS. CASS (Cargo Account Set
tlement System) is the clearing system of IATA (International Air Tran
sport Association). The statistics reflect the net rates actually paid
. According to Aircargo News, Panalpina's sales revenues of USD 300.6
m put it well in the lead even though its non-CASS turnover is not ref
lected in these statistics.
