Ulsan Port Authority (UPA) volumes in October were up 30.2 percent to 18.48 million tons compared with the same period last year, led by a strong liquid cargo trade.
This is the highest record ever the port has handled, smashing the 17.28 million tons in July. Liquid cargo, the main trade item at UPA, totaled 14.94 million tons.
Inbound crude oil soared 45.4% to 212,000 tons while outbound refined petroleum products increased 18.7% to 540,000 tons. However, the port saw its container trade volumes decline slightly 3.8% to 27,825 TEU.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,253 vessels went through the port - 1,084 ocean going ships and 1,169 home waters liners - increasing 8.1% compared with the same period in 2010. < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
