[ Exclusive Use of the 4th Berth in Busan Port proposed ]

Korea shipowner’s Association(KSA) have recently proposed to the Korea
Maritime and Port Administration that the shipping companies trading
between Korea and Japan be appointed as the exclusive operators of the
4th berth in line with the government’s recent privatization plan
at the port of Busan so that they may use the same berth exclusively.
Through this proposal , KSA have further stated that in order to streng-
then our companies’ competitiveness against the opening of Korea and
Japan route, expansion of joint operation between shipping lines and
its encouragement by securing their excluse use of a certain berth are
required.
Moreover, KSA said that governmental support to the shipping lines tra-
ding in this trade is needed because they have been in financial diffi-
culties due to an inherent overcapacity and reduction of cargo volume
.
