Hamburg Sud: ap Jackson christened in Manzanillo
Hamburg, September 6, 2010. Hamburg Sud christened the ap Jackson in Manzanillo (Mexico) on Saturday as part of a customer event. She is the first of two identical container ships, both of which have a slot capacity of 4,600 TEU. The sponsor of the ap Jackson was Tatiana Ramirez Oetker. With the naming ceremony, Hamburg Sud staged a premiere in Mexico, it being the first time the country had witnessed the christening of a container ship.
Since her delivery in late May 2010 at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) in Korea, the ap Jackson has been deployed in the shipping group service between Asia and Mexico/South America West Coast (ASPA Service). The ship is named after a peninsula in the Marlborough region in the south of New Zealand. The sister ship, the ap Jervis is to be christened in Peru in November 2010.
