OOCL Seoul named at Geoje Shipyard, Korea
OOCL announced on January 11, 2010, the christening of its newest vessel, the OOCL Seoul, the fourteenth SX class vessel (8,063 TEU) in OOCL? line of sixteen SX class vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.
The m.v. OOCL Seoul was named by sponsor Dr. Rulin Fuong Tung, the wife of Mr Andy Tung, Chief Operating Officer of OOCL.
Mr. Andy Tung hosted the naming ceremony on behalf of the OOIL Group. Mr. SY Bae, the President and Shipyard General Manager of Samsung Heavy Industries, also attended the naming ceremony.
Speaking at the naming ceremony on Geoje Island, Korea, Mr. Tung said, we are particularly proud to name our newest SX class vessel after Seoul, the dynamic capital of the world largest shipbuilding nation South Korea. The advanced technology, high productivity and superb efficiency of South Korean shipbuilders are renowned worldwide.
Mr. Tung also extended his gratitude to Samsung Heavy Industries. ?amsung Heavy Industries has built many great ships for OOCL, combining optimum performance with cost efficiency, said Mr. Tung. with vessels like the OOCL Seoul, OOCL can improve the service we provide to our customers, offering lower costs through greater economies of scale, while also providing increased service reliability. This high quality service will help us to weather the current economic storm and emerge stronger than ever.?OOCL Seoul will be deployed on the EU Loop C service.
The port rotation is: Rotterdam / Hamburg / Southampton / Singapore / Shekou / Hong Kong / Kaohsiung / Ningbo / Shanghai / Xiamen / Kaohsiung / Hong Kong / Shekou / Singapore / Port Kelang / Southampton and back to Rotterdam in a 70-day round trip.
