Korea to strengthen cooperation in maritime safety with the U.S.
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs announced that it agreed to sign a Joint Declaration on Maritime Safety with the U.S. Coast Guard.
Lim, Ki-tack, Director General for Maritime Safety Policy of MLTM visited the USCG headquarters to meet Rear Admiral Brian Salerno and both of them agreed to maintain close cooperative relationships for maritime safety and marine environmental protection with the signing of the joint declaration.
The ministry said that this is a fruitful result since the joint declaration will help interchange experts and expand mutual cooperation between Korea and the U.S., which has the strictest standards on marine environment and Port State Control. In addition, the USCG will give more favorable treatment to Korean ships entering U.S. ports and thus prevent economic losses caused by delays in ship departures.<Korea Shipping Gazette>
