DSME, largest number ever of ships selected as outstanding vessels
A total of 9 ships built at the DSME yard during 2007 have been selected as some of the most outstanding vessels of the year in 3 of the world’s leading shipbuilding and maritime magazines. DSME has had the honor of being selected for building outstanding vessels every year for the last 25 years.
The English magazine ‘Naval Architect’ announced their selection of the following 3 vessels as outstanding in 2007: Pronav’s 210,100 CBM L-LNGC named ‘Al Ruwais’, Wallenius’s 8,000 Unit PCTC named ‘Faust’, and C.P.Offen’s 8,400 TEU containership named ‘Maersk Semarang’.
The following 3 ships were selected as outstanding vessels by ‘Marine Log’, a publication based in the USA: BW Gas’s 148,300 CBM LNGC ‘LNG Kano’, A.P.Moller’s 8,100 TEU containership ‘Maersk Tanjong’, and Kristen’s 320,000 TDW VLCC ‘Astro Canopus’.
A further 3 ships, Exmar’s 83,800 CBM VLGC ‘Flanders Liberty’, KOTC’s 113,000 TDW product carrier ‘Wafrah’, and Hamburg Sud’s 5,600 TEU containership ‘Monte Tamaro’, were chosen by ‘Maritime Reporter’.
Having 9 ships selected from a single shipbuilder is a first in Korean shipbuilding history.
The variety of vessels honored shows that DSME has a competitive edge in all types of vessels. With the selection of the 9 vessels this year, DSME has continued this distinguished honor first awarded with M/V Pioneer in 1982.
Up to now, a total of 84 ships produced by DSME have been selected as outstanding vessels.
