NYK Pakistan subsidiary Established
NYK Group South Asia Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based wholly owned subsidiary of Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, recently established NYK Line Pakistan (Private) Ltd. The new company began operations on August 20.
In 1959, NYK appointed James Finlay Limited as its regional shipping agent in Pakistan to chiefly handle container and car transport business activities. The annual container handling volume at the Port of Karachi has since reached 1 million TEU, and growth is expected to continue. The purpose for the establishment of this local company is to respond to increasing demand in the region. Pakistan is also known as the gate port to countries in central Asia, and the new local company will allow NYK to better respond to customer needs in the region.
NYK Line Pakistan (Private) Ltd. is NYK 13th regional shipping agent in Asia. Having a local presence should greatly help NYK improve customer service in the region. NYK plans for the new addition to its global network to further enhance its capability in serving its customers in fast-growing markets such as Pakistan.
Mats Jansson, President and CEO of the company, said, he have enjoyed good cooperation and support from J Lauritzen. We regret their decision to leave the company as well as the reefer business but still we respect their standpoint and wish them great success in their new strategy. Since we now are becoming a full member of NYK we are with great enthusiasm looking forward to increased cooperation with NYK and the future challenges in the reefer business.
