OOCL Southampton named at the Geoje Shipyard
Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) announced that May 28th they christened the sixth of twelve 8,063 TEU vessels, ordered from and built by Samsung Heavy Industries.
The newbuilding was named the m.v. OOCL Southampton by sponsor Mrs. Mariana Cheng, a noted humanitarian and the wife of Mr. Vincent Cheng, Chairman of the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation.
The m.v. OOCL Southampton will be deployed on the EU2 (Asia-Europe Westbound and Europe-East Asia Eastbound) Loop with the Grand Alliance.
The OOCL Southampton? port rotation is: Kaohsiung - Shekou - Yantian - Hong Kong - Singapore - Le Havre - Amsterdam - Hamburg - Antwerp - Southampton - Gioia Tauro - Jeddah - Jebel Ali - Singapore and back to Kaohsiung in a 63-day round trip.
The Monday christening coincided with a new contract, signed by OOCL? Chief Executive Officer, Philip Chow, for an option on another 4,506 TEU vessel, built by Samsung. This vessel would be in addition to a contract for five 4,506 TEU vessels, also built by Samsung for OOCL, signed on April 23, 2007.
