Gwangyang Port establishs port security and inspection system for the first time in Korea
Gwangyang Port established comprehensive inspection system for port security for the first time in Korea. Yeosu regional maritime affairs and fisheries office announced that it set up the port control center investing 4 million dollars, which takes charge of the port's security and inspection works in a comprehensive manner.
The center has the system to show the situation of the port through large screen monitoring 78 berths of 25 terminals. The regional office said that it will give final touches to the system within the year to make it possible to response to emergencies like intrusion, through consultations with 11 private port operators.
An official explained that as the global logistics security had been strengthened through CSI system and CT PAT since the 9.11 terrorist attacks, the need to build up port security aroused, adding that the comprehensive port security system is the first in its kind in Korea.
In a separate move, the pilot RFID system will be applied to container terminals of Gwangyang and Incheon Port following Busan Port? container terminals. The system makes it possible to minimize the time spent on logistics and to guarantee the cargo security by tracing container trucks from departure to arrival.
