Two Hamburg Sud newbuilds christened in Okpo Shipyard
HAMBURG SUD's two newbuildings, the Bahia and the Bahia Blanca, have been christened at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering(DSME) shipyard in Okpo, Korea.
The vessels are the first two in a series of six identical 3,752 TEU containerships and will be phased into Hamburg Sud's liner services between Asia and the east coast of South America.
A company statement explained that the Bahia was named after the state of the same name on the Atlantic coast of north eastern Brazil, while the name Bahia Blanca has its origins in a port in the south of Buenos Aires.
The two 254-metre long vessels, with a maximum draught of 12.40 metres, can travel at a speed of up to 21.5 knots.
