2 vessels christened at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard for Novoship
HMD (Hyundai Mipo Dockyard) christened the third and fourth 46,000 dwt (deadweight tons) vessels of 4 chemical tankers ordered by Novoship in May, 2002 on April 12.
Novoship named the vessels the 'PAMIR' and 'ELBRUS' after a plateau in middle Asia and the highest peak of the Kafkaz Mountains in Russia.
At the christening, many congratulators attended with HMD president Kil Sun Choi and Novoship president Tagir Izmailov.
The ships are 183 meters long, 32.2 meters wide and operate at 14.6 knots at full speed. One vessel was delivered to Novoship at the christening, while the other will be delivered early next month.
HMD finished building the ships 2 months earlier than originally contracted, largely due to improved construction techniques and productivity increases instituted last year.
HMD will build 35 vessels in 2004, with 11 ships already completed. Novoship is a large Russian shipping company with 70 vessels.
