KMTC(Korea Marine Transport Co., Ltd.) held a naming cere mony Feb. 27th for the 'KMTC Shanghai', one of the containerships it ordered from Hanjin Heavy Industry Young Do shipyard in 2002.
The KMTC Shanghai is 187m long, 27.6m wide and can reaches a cruising sailing speed of 21.5 knot. KMTC said that the new 1,860TEU class full containership started in a Malaysia route via Shanghai on Feb. 27th.
The Malaysia route docks in Ulsan - Pusan - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Port Kelang - Pasir Gudang - Hong Kong - Shanghai - Ulsan.
During the naming ceremony, Mun-Jun, Jeon, CEO of KMTC, said, "We can provide better service and strengthen competitiveness in Southeast Asia with the 'KMTC Shanghai', a wide and highly efficient containership.
KMTC plans to introduce an identical ship, the 'KMTC PortKelang', from Hanjin Heavy Industry in May.
