CK Line's " Chun Woo " |
CK Line, a Korean shipping company, is continuing to expand its fleets with more modern ships.
CK Line announced that it took over a used-bulk ship on September 4. The company bought the ship for USD 2,900,000.
The bulk ship re-named "Sky Beauty" was built by Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan and is 5,820 tons. The "Sky Beauty" was called the "Asian Fortune" before its rechristening.
The vessel will be deployed to replace the "Sky Aurora" into a regular bulk service operated between Busan and Yokohama first for 2 or 3 weeks. The ship will then be put into another service between Busan and Kobe/Osaka replacing the "Sky Peace".
The "Sky Peace" may be later sold later due to age - it was built in 1991. CK Line disposed of the "Chun Woo" (3,424 tons) - over 20-years old - to an Indonesian owner in 2011.
Meanwhile CK Line already acquired 2 new container ships in March. The company has taken over 5 vessels during the past three years with its aggressive fleet expansion efforts.
With this, the carrier now has 7 container ships amounting to total 4,900 TEU and 4 bulk ships amounting to 23,000 tons total. < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
