Korea first full-time employee of UN ICAO is a woman
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs announced that Gooseul Kim of the Ministry of the Office of Civil Aviation became Korea first woman to become a full-time employee of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) beating out 87 other applicants for the job.
ICAO is an organization under the UN that was established in 1947 pursuant to the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention, 1944) for the development of the international aviation industry and aviation technologies. Its membership numbers 190 air transport countries and carries out legislative, judicial and administrative functions.
Korea is the 10th largest air transport country in the world and the 10th largest financial contributor to ICAO. In spite of this, there were no Koreans working as full-time employees of the organization which makes this very meaningful.<Korea Shipping Gazette>
