K-Line commissions new Panamax
K-Line held a naming ceremony for a 4,014 TEU class new container vessel at the Hyundai Heavy Industries dock in Ulsan on November 26.
At the ceremony, 50 people attended including the president of K-line, Yasuhide Sakinaga, officials from K-Line Japan and Korea, and president Yu Kwan Hong of HHI and other officials.
Of special note, Uchiyamada, senior managing director of Toyota Motors, attended the naming ceremony companion behalf of Toyota. Also his wife, Mrs. Uchiyamada dubbed the new vessel a godmother. Toyota Motors is a regular customer of K-Line.
The new vessel, the Verrazanno Bridge, was delivered along with a Panamax class 8 vessel that K-Line ordered from HHI. The ship will cover transpacific services starting from Yentai Port in China on December 1. The service route is Yentai-Hong Kong-Nagoya-Tokyo-Tacoma-Vancouver.
The Verrazanno Bridge is 294 meters long, 32.2 meters wide and sails at a service speed of over 25.6 knots.
Meanwhile, K-Line christened the ?irginia Bridge? the second of the new vessels. This vessel will also cover the transpacific route. A final vessel in this class for the route, the ?ictoria Bridge? will be delivered by August 9, 2005.
