Domestic ports are increasing regulation enforcement for foreign vessels
MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affaires & Fisheries) announced that they are intensifying regulations for foreign ships from April 30 with advanced inspection equipment, in line with international standards.
The equipment consists of measuring instruments to inspect corrosion on ship steel plating and portable computers with about 35 international agreements. Port controllers will be able to determine whether a vessel is too old or not with the new equipment, and will be able to correctly enforce international agreements on ships.
The Port Authority has controlled ships without any scientific equipment, but will now conduct inspections just as other advanced countries.
An MOMAF official said, "We are doing our best to maintain human safety and protect the maritime environment, operating powerful port controls for vessels under international standards."
Meanwhile, port authority control also means inspection for facilities and crews of foreign vessels to see whether they meet international standard. The authority aims to correct defects in vessels.
