3 container cranes transported by air to Pusan Port
November 8, three cranes made by HHI (Hyundai Heavy Industries) replaced previous gantry cranes in the Jasungdae wharf, which collapsed during typhoon Maemi.
On November 7, according to Ulsan Regional Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Office, the head office in Hong Kong of Hutchison Korea Terminal operating Jasungdae wharf intended to install these 3 cranes at the Bahamas Hutchison wharf originally, but the head office changed its plan, instead opting to rescue Jasungdae wharf.
To this, the 3 cranes weighing 4,000 tons total were moved to Jasungdae wharf in Pusan Port from an HHI facility by an 8,900-ton barge on November 8. It took 10 hours to transport the cranes.
The Ulsan Regional Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Office announced that the cranes would work from the first of next month after a 20-day testing period.
One insider from the office said, "We expect that Jasungdae wharf will handle 1.55 million TEU, handling results of last year easily while completely recovering from the typhoon damage.
